First edition, first state. Black cloth stamped in pink and yellow on spine in original first-issue jacket. A very good copy with some very minor fading to spine lettering and rubbed extremities, contemporary owner's signature, in a good plus jacket with light soiling to front panel, rear panel rubbed, spine faded, as usually found, small chips to spine ends and corners, and two small punctures, one about one centimeter-squared to spine, and one slightly smaller to spine-edge of front panel.

O'Connor's second book, a collection of ten stories emblematic of her particular brand of the Southern Gothic. The author's constant themes of violence and catholic spirituality present themselves here in this first edition copy.
