Winford, E. Carlton
Dallas, TX: Winford Company, 1954.

Sorry, the product is not available.

Second printing. 4to. Publisher's maroon cloth in original dust jacket. Jacket suffers moderate foxing overall and some edge-wear along the top, including a chip around spine, measuring 1.5" approx. Front free endpaper slightly foxed, interior otherwise clean and bright. About very good.

An amateur publication, started through the author's chance encounter with a retired female impersonator. Though the book was self-published and has a DIY, scrapbook aesthetic, FEMME MIMICS is exhaustively researched, including historical information and examples, descriptions of various types of female impersonators and biographical profiles of popular performers. Features a large section of black and white photographs of professional female impersonators from across the US and Europe, in costume and out. A fascinating look into midcentury drag culture with a vernacular feel.
