First U.S. edition. Translated by Maria Jolas. Black cloth, spine stamped in blue and white, blue topstain. Very good plus copy with top edge and topstain lightly faded, small stains to bottom edge. In a good jacket top edge worn and chipped, whites faded, edges worn, light soiling, small dampstain to fore edge of rear panel, handful of small punctures.

Sarraute's first book, initially published in France in 1939. Tropisms contains a series of what Sarraute called "moments," fragments of ideas that she would develop more fully later in her career.
